HC Deb 02 December 1942 vol 385 c1163
71. Major Markham

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the Government's policy that the Home Guard will become in an ever-increasing measure responsible for the defence of these islands, he will consider ways and means of making part of the Home Guard more mobile?

The Joint Under-Secretary of State for War (Mr. Arthur Henderson)

Mobile patrols and units of the Home Guard have already been formed in those places where there is an operational need for them, where the necessary equipment can be provided, and where it is feasible to employ the Home Guard in such a way having regard to local conditions.
