HC Deb 02 December 1942 vol 385 c1134
13. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any information to give respecting the position of refugees and internees in France; and whether he will make representations to the Spanish Government respecting the well-being of Senor Caballero and other Republican leaders and the possibility of their transference to a friendly country?

Mr. Eden

Since the occupation of France was recently completed by the Germans, no information has reached me regarding the position of refugees and internees in that country. I have however, asked the Protecting Power for a full report on the position of British subjects. As regards the second part of the Question, I understand that there is no truth in recent rumours that these persons, who were in France, have been handed over to the Spanish Government. The question of representations to the Spanish Government does not, therefore, arise.

Mr. Sorensen

If information comes to the right hon. Gentleman in the near future that Senor Caballero has been transferred to Spain will he make the strongest representations to His Majesty's Ambassador?
