HC Deb 02 December 1942 vol 385 c1141
24. Commander Bower

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the reason why the post of Colonial Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Malta is in abeyance?

Colonel Stanley

The duties of Colonial A.D.C. are mainly social and in a rigorous siege, such as that of Malta, any entertainments are out of the question. For this reason, and also because the place of all able-bodied officers during this siege must be with their units, in full-time staff work or in other Government employment, the Governor has decided that it is only right and proper to hold the appointment of Colonial A.D.C. in abeyance for the present. However, on rare ceremonial occasions such as the Presentation of the George Cross, the Governor has available the services of two former Colonial A.D.Cs. who are always only too willing to assist in an honorary capacity.
