§ 39. Mr. Henderson Stewartasked the President of the Board of Trade whether, before deciding to close Messrs. Scott and Fife's weaving mill in Tayport, he con sidered fully the representations made to him on the matter by the Scottish Advisory Council for Industry, the Scottish Office, the Fife County Council and Tayport Town Council, as 998 well as those of the hon. Member for East Fife; whether he is aware that one of the only two substantial work places in Tayport will thus be closed down; and whether, before closing these works, he will send a special investigator to Tayport to meet the parties concerned and review the local conditions?
§ Captain WaterhouseYes, Sir. My right hon. Friend considered all the evidence on this case most carefully before reaching a final decision. As regards a further investigation on the spot, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to him on Thursday last by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour and National Service.
Mr. StewartAs there are so many Supplementary Questions I want to put to that unsatisfactory reply, I beg to give notice that I will raise the matter to-day on the Adjournment.
