General von Thoma is in a prisoner of war camp and is being treated as a prisoner of war.

asked the Secretary of State for War what payment is made to the captured Italian General Berganzoli?

In accordance with the Geneva Convention regarding the treatment of prisoners of war, Italian officers of this rank receive £27 15s. 7d. a month.

Are we to understand that Mr. "Electric Whiskers" is living in luxury at the expense of the British taxpayer?

Sir J. Grigg

The hon. Gentleman can gauge luxury as well as I can. The figure of pay which he gets is £27 15s. 7d. a month. Regarding the arrangements about pay, I think there is a set-off between the two Governments.

Is there not a reciprocal arrangement for our officers?

Sir J. Grigg

Yes, Sir.

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that these people are living in luxury, that they are on parole and can go seven miles without any escort whatever, and that they are not using—
