HC Deb 05 August 1942 vol 382 cc1009-10
12. Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether officers of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force filling vacancies in Royal Air Force establishment are granted the equivalent rank which would be held by a Royal Air Force officer filling the vacancy?

Captain Balfour

Yes, Sir, that is the rule; but in cases where the appointment of a W.A.A.F. officer to a post, previously filled by a R.A.F. officer, involves the grant of acting rank this may be delayed until the. W.A.A.F. officer has sufficient experience of her new duties to discharge them with full efficiency.

Wing-Commander Hulbert

May I ask whether in that case it is back-dated?

Captain Balfour

Yes, Sir, it is backdated.
