HC Deb 05 August 1942 vol 382 c1031
52. Mr. Thorne

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he can give any information in connection with the charge made against Burneys, Limited, confectioners, of Dodgson, Rochdale, heard on 13th July at Rochdale; how many charges were made against the firm and other people; and whether any public officials were involved?

Mr. Mabane

As regards the first part of the Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave to him on 23rd July. It would not be possible within the limits of a Parliamentary answer to give an account of this complex series of cases, which were reported fully in the local Press at the time. Thirty-six summonses were issued against Burneys Ltd., and 116 against other persons and firms concerned. No public officials were involved in the case.
