HC Deb 05 August 1942 vol 382 c1037
66 and 67. Viscount Hinchingbrooke

asked the Minister of Supply (1) how many operational research sections, employing scientific observers, exist; how many are projected and in what theatres of war it is intended they should be used;

(2) what broad classes of equipment will be covered by operational research sections; and what is the appointment of the officer responsible for their work?

Sir A. Duncan

Seven operational research sections are at present at work in this country and the Middle East. Others are being formed as and where the military situation demands. Practically all classes of operational equipment will eventually be covered. Operational research is the joint responsibility of the Scientific Adviser to the Army Council and the Controller of Physical Research and Signals Development of the Ministry of Supply.
