HC Deb 05 August 1942 vol 382 c1024
38. Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any progress has been made in the selection of a site for a Moslem mosque in London?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. Harold Macmillan)

Yes, Sir. Negotiations have now been completed for the purchase by His Majesty's Government of a site known as Regents Lodge adjoining the Outer Circle of Regents Park.

Mr. Creech Jones

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this development will be received with a great deal of appreciation and satisfaction?

Earl Winterton

Would my right hon. Friend make it clear that there is a body of trustees, Moslems and non-Moslems, of whom I am one, for handling this matter who are quite satisfied with the arrangements made by His Majesty's Government?

Mr. Hannah

Should not this be made far better known throughout the world than it is?
