HC Deb 05 August 1942 vol 382 cc1026-7
42. Mr. D. Adams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, as the wages of Government employees in Jamaica are 31 per cent. below the rise in the cost of living since the outbreak of war, he is recommending this deficiency to be made up forthwith, both as a right of the employees and as an example to private employers in the island?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

I am indebted to my hon. Friend for raising this question again, Since replying to a similar Question from him on 29th July, I have considered this matter further with my Noble Friend, who is communicating with the Governor on the whole question.
