HC Deb 05 August 1942 vol 382 cc1034-5
60. Mr. Hannah

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he realises the strong feeling that exists in Bilston over the decision to close the bacon factory of J. E. Downs and Sons and the grave doubts locally felt about the continued supply of offal products; and will he grant an inquiry into this matter?

Mr. Mabane

I have nothing to add to the reply given to my hon. Friend on Wednesday, 29th July.

Mr. Hannah

Do the Government realise that this is a serious matter for Bilston? I found dismay on the subject in the town hall, at the citizens advice bureau, and at the food office. There is a fear that it will have a very bad effect on food supplies both for Bilston and the surrounding towns. The matter simply cannot be allowed to rest where it is.
