HC Deb 04 August 1942 vol 382 c841
36. Mr. Bartlett

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether, in view of the scarcity of oil, he will reconsider the potentialities of petrol and lubricating oil production from West Somerset oil shale?

Major Lloyd George

As the hon. Member is aware, this question has been fully investigated. There is no reason to suppose that another investigation would lead to different conclusions.

Mr. Bartlett

Will the Minister bear in mind that this shale has a very high oil content, that the investigation was not considered satisfactory by a certain number of neutral experts, and that the need for oil has become very much greater since then?
