HC Deb 30 September 1941 vol 374 cc464-5
76. Mr. Liddall

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, when amending the Companies Act, 1929, he will overhaul the machinery by which the Board of Trade's investigations are carried out for the protection of shareholders, as present methods are so cumbersome that it has required three years to issue recently an uncompleted Report, which is now of little use to those whom it was intended to protect?

Sir A. Duncan

Yes, Sir, but I would observe that the delay in the investigation to which my hon. Friend refers has been largely attributable to war conditions and other circumstances which are beyond statutory control.
