HC Deb 11 September 1941 vol 374 cc276-7
10. Mr. Mander

asked the Minister of Labour whether the company, Trent Guns and Cartridges, Limited, have yet decided to accord recognition to trade union organisation; and whether Mr. Claud King remains managing director of the firm, in view of the unfavourable comments in the report under the Industrial Courts Act [Cmd. 6300]?

Mr. Bevin

According to the latest information which I have, the answer to the first part of the Question is "No," and to the second part "Yes."

Mr. Mander

Does the right hon. Gentleman not intend to do something in a situation in which an employer is deliberately refusing to give recognition to a trade union organisation? In the light of the report, is it not necessary to take some very firm action?

Mr. Bevin

The Government are now considering what steps can be taken.
