HC Deb 23 October 1941 vol 374 c1888
23. Mr. Edmund Harvey

asked the President of the Board of Education the figures for the latest convenient date, of children of school age in England and Wales who are not receiving school education, and of those who are receiving only part-time education?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education (Mr. Ede)

The latest figures obtained from local education authorities were in respect of the week ended 12th July, 1941. They showed that 28,306 children of public elementary school age were not receiving instruction and 72,505 were receiving part-time instruction. These figures represent 0.6 per cent, and 1.6 per cent, respectively of the total number of children of school age.
