asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a statement as to the purpose and scope of the mission of Sir Otto Niemeyer to China?

Yes, Sir. I am glad to have this opportunity of informing the House that, on the invitation of the Chinese Government, Sir Otto Niemeyer has undertaken, at the request of His Majesty's Government, a financial and economic mission to China. Sir Otto Niemeyer will be in a position to discuss any financial and economic questions which the Chinese Government may wish to raise.
