HC Deb 08 October 1941 vol 374 c977
41. Mr. Riley

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the Governor of Jamaica has recently authorised the wharf owners in Kingston to increase their wharfage charges by 50 per cent.; that these increased wharfage charges make a substantial addition to the cost of imported goods; that the cost of living in Jamaica is now 37 per cent. above the pre-war level; and will he have inquiries made as to the equity and wisdom of the increased wharfage charges?

Mr. George Hall

No, Sir, but inquiries are being made of the Governor of Jamaica, and I will communicate with my hon. Friend when a reply is received.
