HC Deb 08 October 1941 vol 374 cc982-3
46. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Prime Minister whether he will instruct the committee which is considering the case of the dependants of serving men to consider also an increase in the supplementary allowances granted to old age pensioners, rendered necessary by the rise in the cost of living?

Mr. Attlee

I do not think that the question of old age pensions properly falls within the scope of the inquiry to which my hon. Friend refers.

Mr. Stewart

Can the right hon. Gentleman assure the House that some other body will inquire into the already unhappy position of old age pensioners due to the rise in the cost of living?

Mr. Gallacher

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this is becoming a very urgent matter for the old folk, and will he not promise to do something about it?
