HC Deb 08 October 1941 vol 374 c968
21. Dr. Little

asked the Minister of Information whether, in the public interest and for the security of the United Kingdom, he will now establish a censorship of all correspondence passing both ways between Northern Ireland and neutral Eire in order to avoid asking for and receiving information which could be used by enemy agents to our disadvantage in the war?

Mr. Bracken

As my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary has already indicated, close attention has been given to the ways and means of preventing leakage of information from Northern Ireland. But I am informed that the adoption of this proposal would not be effective for the purpose in view.

Dr. Little

Is my right hon. Friend aware that three months ago his predecessor in office informed the House that he was in touch with the Home Secretary with a view to preventing anything like this from occurring, and that nothing has been done in three months?

Mr. Bracken

I will consult again with my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary and bring my hon. Friend's representation to his attention.
