7. Mr. Mander

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign, Affairs the position with regard to the ex-Mufti of Jerusalem; and whether he has been interned in Persia?

Mr. Eden

The Mufti has not as yet been caught. The Persian authorities are fully aware of the importance which the Allied Governments attach to the arrest of the Mufti, and all possible steps are being taken to secure him.

Mr. Noel-Baker

When he is caught, shall we treat him as what, in fact, he is —an open and declared enemy of this country?

Mr. Eden

I would like to catch him first.

Mr. McGovern

I think you will have a job; he is a "Slippery Sam."
