HC Deb 08 October 1941 vol 374 c972
27. Sir Henry Morris-Jones

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings whether it is the intention of his Department to requisition five houses in Colwyn Bay; whether better alternative premises are available; and whether any arrangements have been made to secure accommodation for the householders who will be displaced and the evacuees who are billeted on them?

Mr. Hicks

The problem of finding accommodation is one of great and increasing difficulty. I am advised that no better alternative premises are available, but I am anxious to avoid inflicting hardship if at all possible, and I am, therefore, endeavouring to find a solution which will not involve the requisitioning of these houses. I cannot, however, promise that this attempt will prove successful.

Sir H. Morris-Jones

Will my hon. Friend be able to give me a more definite reply later, in view of the anxiety among the people concerned?

Mr. Hicks

I would point out that I am being pressed by the Departments for accommodation.

Sir H. Morris-Jones

Is my hon. Friend aware that the Ministry have taken over every hotel, every boarding-house and every public school, and will he see that people are not displaced from their houses without consideration?

Mr. Davidson

In how many parts of the country are the personnel of the Ministry of Works distributed?

Mr. Hicks

Perhaps my hon. Friend will put that Question down.
