HC Deb 08 October 1941 vol 374 cc962-3
14. Miss Eleanor Rathbone

asked the Minister of Aircraft Production whether, in view of the outstanding success of the "All Tanks for Russia Week" stimulating production, he has considered establishing a similar week of all planes for Russia?

The Minister of Aircraft Production (Lieut.-Colonel Moore-Brabazon)

I have already considered the form of publicity suggested by my hon. Friend. Indeed, I am glad to be able to tell the House that the keenness of the workers in the aircraft industry is such that I had already received a similar suggestion from them. In spite of the urgent desire to help Russia, however, I have decided not to adopt the suggestion. It would be misleading to all concerned to suggest that the total aircraft production in this country in any one week could be earmarked for Russia, as this would include a large number of types which, for operational reasons, would be more of an embarrassment than a help. The paramount importance of the steady production of the maximum possible number of aircraft in this country is well appreciated by the workers in the aircraft industry, who are deserving of the highest praise for the excellent results they are now achieving, particularly in each of the last two months.
