HC Deb 27 November 1941 vol 376 c865
11. Mr. Stephen

asked the Minister of Labour how many young women under 25 years of age have been registered for National Service; how many of them have received written directions ordering them to employment in towns other than where they are resident: and how many prosecutions have taken place in the case of refusal to carry out the directions?

Mr. Assheton

The number of women registered in the 1917-20 classes was 1,265,036. In addition some of the 1916 class were under 25 years of age at the date of registration, but the precise figure is not available, nor can I give the number of directions issued to women under 25. Four registered women under 25 have been prosecuted for failing to comply with directions.

12. Mr. Stephen

asked the Minister of Labour how many young women in Scotland under 25 years of age have received directions sending them to work in England; and how many in England have received directions sending them to work at factories in Scotland?

Mr. Ralph Assheton

I regret that this information is not available.

Mr. Stephen

But does not the Minister see the importance of such information being made available, in view of the shortage of transport now and the disadvantage to so many families?
