HC Deb 26 November 1941 vol 376 cc743-4
38. Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Undersecretary of State for the Colonies whether he has received any report on the insanitary conditions and mosquito-infected town of Kokoja in Nigeria; and whether the local authorities have been instructed to take vigorous action in the matter?

Mr. George Hall

I assume that my hon. Friend intends to refer to Lokoja. I am not aware of any reason to suppose that Lokoja is at all badly infected with mosquitoes or is otherwise unsatisfactory from a sanitary point of view. The Governor, however, is being asked whether there is any truth in the allegations referred to.

Mr. Creech Jones

Will the hon. Gentleman be satisfied if I can give him information showing that the statement in the Question is correct?

Mr. Hall

I shall be glad if my hon. Friend will furnish me with any information, but we shall still have to get confirmation from the Governor.
