HC Deb 26 November 1941 vol 376 cc736-7
26. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Undersecretary of State for the Colonies whether the proposals adopted by the Egba Council at Abeokuta are being implemented; what prospects exist of an extension of these reforms; and whether he can give an assurance that the whole question of the progressive political and constitutional development of Colonial Government and the encouragement of effective democratic native self-government will be considered during the war?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. George Hall)

The Governor of Nigeria is being asked to furnish information in regard to the first and second parts of the Question. As regards the third part of the Question, His Majesty's Government have constantly in mind the progressive evolution of self-governing institutions in all parts of the Colonial Empire.

Mr. Sorensen

Could the hon. Gentleman say when the report of the Governor regarding the first two parts of this Question is likely to be received, and whether it will be available to the House?

Mr. Hall

I could not say when it will be received, owing to the difficulties of transport, but I will inform my hon. Friend as soon as it is received.
