In accordance with undertakings given to the House at the outbreak of war, the lower age limit for despatch overseas of soldiers called up under the National Service Act, 1939, is 20, and in the case of all other soldiers 19.

Has that undertaking been strictly observed?

As far as I know it has been very strictly observed, but my hon. Friend will appreciate that, of course, soldiers who are volunteers may go overseas at the age of 19.
