51. Mr. De la Bèreasked the Minister of Agriculture whether, with a view to enlightening the townsfolk of this country, he will take the necessary steps to publish some statistics and items setting out the contribution which has been made by the British farm workers to the national larder, since the outbreak of hostilities, with a view to creating a better understanding between townsfolk and country folk?
Mr. HudsonI am very much alive to the need for the closer understanding to which my hon. Friend refers. Good progress has already been made in that direction, as a result of the publicity given to the achievements of our farmers and farm workers in the past two years. Suitable forms of publicity will be continued.
Mr. De la BèreWould my right hon. Friend consider having a Press campaign? Does he not realise that it would do a great deal towards creating the better understanding which is so desirable in the national interest?
Mr. HudsonThat would be entirely unnecessary. So far as I am able to judge, in spite of shortage of paper and smaller sizes, the Press have been extremely helpful during the last six months.
§ Mr. Charles WilliamsWould not help of that kind be very much more useful than an overdose of statistics?
