HC Deb 29 May 1941 vol 371 cc1984-5
34. Mr. Edmund Harvey

asked the President of the Board of Education how many of His Majesty's Inspectors of Schools have been seconded for other work or released for military service; and whether any temporary increase of staff has been made in consequence?

The President of the Board of Education (Mr. Ramsbotham)

Thirty-eight of His Majesty's Inspectors and 13 Assistant Inspectors have been seconded for other work or released for military service. Since the outbreak of war three temporary appointments have been made.

Mr. Harvey

In view of the great strain upon education authorities and teachers in present war conditions, will not the President of the Board of Education consider making use of the services of qualified persons such as retired inspectors of schools?

Mr. Ramsbotham

I will bear that in mind.
