HC Deb 15 May 1941 vol 371 cc1234-5
7. Mr. Lipson

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the shortage of labour for coal deliveries in Cheltenham; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy this?

Mr. Bevin

No, Sir, but I will make inquiries and communicate with my hon. Friend.

Mr. Lipson

Is my right hon. Friend aware that I have here a letter from one firm of coal merchants in which it is stated that they have only one man and a youth to serve 900 private consumers, two manufacturing firms, a laundry and a school, and that the other coal merchants in Cheltenham are in almost the same position?

Mr. Bevin

Obviously I cannot be aware of the contents of a private letter I have not read.

Mr. Lipson

Is not the Minister aware that things are just as bad in other places?
