HC Deb 15 May 1941 vol 371 cc1248-9
27. Mr. Denville

asked the Home Secretary in how many districts in this country since the war started permission has been given to open cinemas on Sundays for the entertainment of the troops?

Mr. H. Morrison

One hundred and seventy-three Orders have been approved by Parliament under Defence Regulations 42B, empowering the cinematograph licensing authority to grant permission for the Sunday opening of cinemas in the areas to which the Orders relate.

Sir H. Williams

Can my right hon. Friend say how many motor cars using petrol went to these cinemas last Sunday night?

Mr. Morrison

I cannot say, Sir, but probably a fair number.
