§ 19. Mr. Manderasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport whether he will consider the advisability of taking steps to separate canals from railway control and to bring all the canal systems of the country into one unified organisation?
§ Colonel LlewellinWe shall, of course, consider any suggestion that would materially improve the immediate efficiency and carrying capacity of the canals, but I doubt whether it is desirable at the present time to attempt to carry through the major reorganisation suggested by my hon. Friend.
§ Mr. ManderAs this is a very old question, cannot my right hon. and gallant Friend say that the matter will be studied actively?
§ Colonel LlewellinIt is a very new one to me, and I will certainly study it.
§ Mr. ThorneHow long will it be before Mr. Pick makes his report?
§ Colonel LlewellinWe expect the report in the course of a week or two.
