§ 29. Mr. A. Edwards
asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that valuable shipping space is still being used for importing goods not essential for the war effort; and whether he can give an undertaking that from an 683 early date no licence or permit will be issued for anything not essential for war needs?
§ Mr. Lyttelton
Imports are subject to most rigorous control by licensing. If the hon. Member has any instances in mind where he considers that permitted imports should not have been allowed, I shall be pleased to investigate them if he will let me have the details.
§ Mr. Edwards
Do I understand that it is the policy of the Government not to allow unessential goods to be imported?
