HC Deb 06 May 1941 vol 371 cc681-2
27. Mr. Crowder

asked the Secretary for Petroleum whether, in order to restrict the use of petrol, he will consider reducing the issue of supplementary coupons to private motor cars over 20 horse-power employed for private and business purposes, and thus discourage their use?

The Secretary for Petroleum (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

I appreciate the intention which my hon. Friend has in mind, and the scale of allowances is already framed so as to discourage the use of high-powered cars. This principle cannot, however, be carried beyond a certain point in view of the limited number of low horse-powered cars now available.

Mr. Crowder

Can my hon. Friend call for some statistics showing the amount of petrol issued in supplementary rations for higher-powered cars as compared with the amount issued to other cars?
