HC Deb 27 March 1941 vol 370 cc701-2
58. Mr. Lipson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give consideration to the granting of an allowance of 5s. per week for children in excess of two, to parents whose income is below the Income Tax limit, at an estimated cost of £12,000,000 per annum, by reducing the subsidy now paid on certain articles of food by an equivalent amount?

Sir K. Wood

While my hon. Friend's suggestion is, no doubt, one of the several ways in which a scheme of family allowances might be formulated, I cannot add to the answer I gave on the general question on 26th February, 1941, to my hon. Friend the Member for North Cornwall (Mr. Horabin).

Mr. Lipson

Will the right hon. Gentleman give further consideration to this particular proposal for family allowances, seeing that it is bound up with the question of a wage policy?
