HC Deb 19 March 1941 vol 370 c148
25. Mr. Mander

asked the Postmaster-General what limit is placed upon the number or sizes of parcels which may be despatched by persons overseas to persons in this country?

The Postmaster-General (Mr. W. S. Morrison)

The maximum size for parcels sent to this country from overseas is 3 feet 6 inches in length and 6 feet in length and girth combined, or appropriate equivalents in the case of parcels from countries using the metric system of measurement. There is no postal limit to the number.

Mr. Mander

Is there not the possibility of an abuse of this privilege by people with rich friends abroad who send numbers of parcels each day, thus taking up shipping space?

Mr. Morrison

I do not think that is a matter for the Post Office.
