§ 47. Sir Herbert Williamsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been drawn to the claims made by the Engineering Industries' Association that, as a result of an interview with a member of the Cabinet, they have secured important concessions in connection with Excess Profits Tax; and whether he will furnish details of these concessions?
§ Sir K. WoodI am not aware that any claim has been made by the Engineering Industries' Association that they have secured important concessions in connection with Excess Profits Tax. I may say that I have been approached with a view to receiving a deputation from the association about certain questions in connection with Excess Profits Tax, but the request has been refused on the grounds that I have already received representations from bodies such as the Federation of British Industries and the Chambers of Commerce which cover the whole field of industry on the subject of the effect of E.P.T. on production.
§ Sir H. WilliamsIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that this organisation is seeking to obtain members on the basis that, through the intervention of Cabinet Ministers, they had secured from the right hon. Gentleman concessions in respect of Excess Profits Tax?
§ Sir K. WoodNo, Sir. I have looked into this document, and I do not think it bears out the statement which the hon. Member makes.
