§ 26. Mr. Bartlettasked the Minister of Information whether his attention has been drawn to delays in the transmission of letters by air mail between the United States of America and this country; and how far the delays are due to the censorship of those letters in Bermuda?
Mr. CooperYes, Sir, I am aware of the delays in the transmission of letters by air mail between the United States of America and this country. These delays are due to the irregular working of the air service operated by the Pan-American Airways between Lisbon and New York, which in turn is due to adverse weather conditions. No part of the delay is due to censorship of letters in Bermuda. The censorship authorities in Bermuda do not remove, or deal with, any mail between this country and the United States. That mail is entirely censored in London, and the delay due to this cause rarely exceeds 24 hours.
