HC Deb 05 March 1941 vol 369 cc903-4
41. Mr. Parker

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food why there is so large a supply of red herring on sale at fishmongers when there is a shortage of the more edible fresh herring, kippers, bloaters, etc.?

Major Lloyd George

The supply of red herring to which my hon. Friend refers was originally prepared for foreign markets which are now inaccessible.
