HC Deb 24 June 1941 vol 372 c953
50. Mr. Liddall

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the Government policy in relation to investment by private persons and the control of capital issues, he will put stock exchanges under a charter or consult with the committee of the London Stock Exchange with a view to suggesting provisions for a charter to meet the present and post-war operations of stockbrokers and flotation firms indirectly working through stock exchanges?

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Kingsley Wood)

I do not think that the Government policy to which my hon. Friend refers requires any action of the kind he suggests, but if the Committee of the London Stock Exchange have doubts whether their present position fully covers their needs, it is open to the committee to approach me on the subject.
