asked the Minister of Agriculture who is the responsible authority for removing from rivers debris caused by enemy action, and on whom does the cost of such removal lie?

The drainage authorities having jurisdiction over any particular river are normally responsible for repairing war damage such as would impair the efficiency of the river as a drainage channel. As regards the cost of repair, I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement made on 29th May by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the subject of war damage to public utility undertakings;
