HC Deb 12 June 1941 vol 372 c305
1. Mr. Tinker

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that some employers in the building trade have, during the period when we had rainy weather, sent their employés home when they had done only half-a-day's work; and whether he will make an appeal to employers to try and avoid this by arranging for other work to be done when building cannot proceed?

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Ernest Bevin)

I have just made an Essential Work Order for the building and civil engineering industries and, in so far as undertakings and works are scheduled under that Order, the point made by my hon. Friend will be met.

Mr. Tinker

I have seen that Order, and I am very pleased with it. I think it will meet the point that I have in mind.
