HC Deb 22 July 1941 vol 373 c790
49. Sir H. Williams

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the total amount of Excise Duty on home-grown sugar during the 12 months ended 31st March, 1941; and the amount of subsidy paid during that period to the British Sugar Corporation?

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Kingsley Wood)

With regard to the first part of the Question, I do not think that it is in the national interest to publish these figures. In reply to the second part of the Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for West Lewisham (Mr. Brooke) by the Secretary to the Department of Overseas Trade on 21st January last. The amount of the payment due for the period in question has not yet been computed.
