As my hon. Friend will be aware, I recently asked all local authorities to furnish me by 15th July with a special report on this subject covering the nine months ended 30th June, 1941. As soon as the outstanding reports have been received—and they are coming in rapidly—I shall consider what further action, if any, is called for.

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider issuing a report to show what is the information supplied to him?

Mr. Brown

I shall certainly consider the best way of making the country aware of the facts revealed by these reports. I have received 741 replies already.
