§ 69. Mr. Ellis Smithasked the Secretary for Mines whether the clerks employed at collieries have been granted the attendance bonus in any part of the country, or have they received increases in wages equivalent; and, if not, what action is to be taken to enable the good-will of the clerks to be maintained?
§ The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade (Captain Waterhouse)The attendance bonus is not, as far as I know, being paid to colliery clerical staff since such staff are normally paid a regular weekly wage. The Mines Department has no authority to determine the wages and conditions of pay for any class of colliery employees and in regard to clerical and similar grades wages are determined by discussion and negotiation directly between the parties concerned.
