HC Deb 15 July 1941 vol 373 cc454-5
54. Sir Robert Bird

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the expenses of the Welsh Church Commission are paid wholly out of the church funds held in the hands of the Commission; and what is the procedure followed for the authorisation of the payments?

Sir K. Wood

Yes, Sir. Provision is made in the Welsh Church Act, 1914 (Sub-section 6 of Section 10), for the payment of salaries and incidental expenses out of moneys in the hands of the Commission which are derived from Welsh ecclesiastical property vested in them under Section 4 of the Act. With regard to the second part of the Question, the 1914 Act provides that the salaries and expenses of the Commission shall be sanctioned by the Treasury with whom the Commissioners are in direct communication.
