HC Deb 10 July 1941 vol 373 cc305-6
40. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he has considered a resolution from the Newcastle, Staffordshire, Trades Council asking for the setting up of a transport regional advisory committee and expressing concern over transport in the area; and what action is to be taken?

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport (Colonel Llewellin)

Yes, Sir. Each Regional Transport Commissioner has already a regional transport advisory committee, which includes a representative of the trades unions. I am considering whether there is scope for a local consultative committee in the area in question. I will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as possible.

Mr. J. J. Davidson

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say what trade union is represented?

Colonel Llewellin

They are appointed, I believe, in consultation with the Trades Union Congress.
