HC Deb 03 July 1941 vol 372 c1472
16. Mr. Cary

asked the Secretary of State for India whether the Government of India will be fully represented on the British Military Mission to Russia, or whether independent contact will be made between the Indian and Russian Governments?

The Secretary of State for India (Mr. Amery)

The duties of the mission are concerned with broad issues of strategy affecting the whole Empire, and the necessity for separate representation of the Government of India has not arisen.

Mr. Cary

Will my right hon. Friend take an early opportunity to make a full statement upon India's increasing responsibility in regard to the war?

Mr. Amery

Yes, Sir.

Sir Hugh O'Neill

Are the Government of India and the Indian Army authorities satisfied about representation on the mission to Russia?

Mr. Amery

Oh yes. Sir. There is no reason to suppose that they are otherwise than satisfied.
