HC Deb 29 January 1941 vol 368 cc540-1
18. Mr. David Adams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the growing destitution and unemployment in large areas of the West Indies, it is intended to use part of the colonial welfare and development grant for remedial purposes, or what other steps are proposed or being instituted?

Mr. George Hall

This matter is at present under active consideration, and I hope to be able to make a statement shortly.

Sir Stanley Reed

Does my hon. Friend agree that there is likely to be a very large demand for West Indian labour in connection with the construction of United States bases?
