HC Deb 28 January 1941 vol 368 c409
18. Mr. Silkin

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that men are being billeted to sleep two or more in one bed; and whether he will take immediate steps to prevent this?

Captain Margesson

No such cases have been brought to my notice. Under the Second Schedule to the Army Act, the requirement is a separate bed for each officer and soldier.

Mr. Silkin

Does not the right hon. and gallant Gentleman know that it is a common practice for men to be billeted sleeping two in a bed?

Captain Margesson

I can only repeat that no such case has been brought to my notice. If my hon. Friend will send me particulars of cases, I will at once look into them. As I said, it is contrary to the Second Schedule of the Act.

Mr. Thorne

Do not married people sleep two in a bed?
