§ 13. Sir Irving Alberyasked the Secretary of State for Air what progress is being made as regards the new Air Training Corps; whether any expression of appreciation has been conveyed to those public-spirited persons who have been assisting, financially and in the organisation of the Air Defence Cadet Corps, during the last two years; and, in numbering the squadrons of the new Training Corps, will he arrange that the existing squadrons of the Air Defence Corps may retain their old numbers?
§ The Secretary of State for Air (Sir Archibald Sinclair)I am grateful to my hon. Friend for giving me an opportunity of supplementing in this House the expression of appreciation which has already been conveyed by the Air Council to the council and local committees of the Air Defence Cadet Corps who have given such devoted service to the organisation of the Air Defence Cadet Corps. I hope that all those, including many hon. Members, who have been associated with the Air Cadet movement will continue to show the same lively interest in the Air Training Corps. The Air Training Corps will be formed as from 1st February next. Meanwhile good progress has been made in organising local committees for the formation of new units. Arrangements have been made to ensure that units of the Air Defence Cadet Corps when approved as A.T.C. units will receive the same number as they hold at present.
